Sandor Clegane

Rory McCann as Sandor Clegane, my favorite Game of Thrones / asoiaf character. GRRM, please don’t let him dead! Save the gentle rage inside him! Because seriously he is a lot more fun than many of the actual POV characters….

More living…

Archery again yesterday…. The place is very crowded. I wonder when their slow times are. I prefer more quiet and less people in most situations in general. But I do still plan to keep going, eventually I will even have enough reputation points with the Proline faction to buy a bow there. They are the type to refuse to sell to noobs. Seriously.

Spent today cleaning my apartment, and even got some help from my third gigantic housecat (the DH). There is something about cleaning around someone and NOT asking them to help that makes them help. I don’t exactly understand it, but it’s working so far. Going to finish my coffee and my post and maybe clean more before it gets too late and the downstairs people complain.

In other news, I got another job! I will be tutoring starting in October. It ought to be interesting. I wonder how it will compare to teaching. The pay is a little less per hour, but since its not a salaried position I don’t have to put in a ton of extra hours for free, and its not nearly as much of a hassle to teach one on one versus in a huge overcrowded classroom. No huge stack of papers to grade, no marking period grades to calculate, no deans referrals, no administrative games….. yeah, I think I could get used to this.

Half way through Feast for Crows…. Where is Sandor Clegane already? There better be plenty of Rory Mccann in seasons 2 and 3 of GoT because there aint gonna be much of him in season 4…

Happy Birthday to me!

Its my 27th birthday today! My gift was not dying in hurricane irene! just kidding, it barely touched us here in harlem. although there are some parts of the city that were more affected i guess…

for my birthday i will be going to an archery range this weekend, which i am very excited about as i have not done archery since my old 4H camp days. otherwise i have no plans since no one really celebrates birthdays on mondays… its like, a rule. also i am still dieting, so eating and drinking merrily has been iced this year.

now to enjoy my lazy low calorie birthday 😀

The Book Group

Decided to spend the morning rewatching certain scenes from The Book Group to try to figure out the book list for the entire series. An exciting way to spend my pre-hurricane Saturday, I know.

My list is almost complete, with the exception of two of the books in the second season. If you happen to know or have a good educated guess as to what the books are feel free to leave a comment, I would love to know…. They have stars next to them….

The Book Group Season 1 Book List:

1. On The Road by Jack Kerouac
2. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
3. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
4. The Little Engine that Could (unknown version, probably Watty Piper)
5. “Dark Alley by Martin Logan” fake book/author
6. The Divining Bell an the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby

The Book Group Season 2 Book List:

1. Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes
2. Hunger: a novel by Knut Hamsen
3. Collection of Poems including Archaic Torso of Apollo by Rainer Maria Rilke
***4. Unknown: “a classic about moving to spain” possibly The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway?
5. The Sexual Life of Catherine M. by Catherine Millet
6. The Map of Love Andaf Soueif

And for anyone else who is a fan of the poem Carol Ann reads in s2e3 and would like to enjoy it sans Fist’s commentary:

Archaic Torso of Apollo
by Rainer Maria Rilke
translated by Stephen Mitchell

We cannot know his legendary head
with eyes like ripening fruit. And yet his torso
is still suffused with brilliance from inside,
like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to low,

gleams in all its power. Otherwise
the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could
a smile run through the placid hips and thighs
to that dark center where procreation flared.

Otherwise this stone would seem defaced
beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders
and would not glisten like a wild beast’s fur:

would not, from all the borders of itself,
burst like a star: for here there is no place
that does not see you. You must change your life.

New jobs aplenty?

In addition to my new job with the place on rockaway beach, I am also working a short two to three hour shift taking care of my friend’s daughter while she teaching her class at Hunter. It will usually be once a week but there is a potential for two shifts, which is a nice little side gig to have and will result in a rather classy reference. The kid is super cute and was very easy to keep entertained for two hours today so I think it will be good. I did find myself wishing that I had more books to read her, so I might look around through my book collection for some kids stuff. Winnie the Pooh might be fun with a two year old.

Of course Hurricane Irene is heading our way and will hit late tomorrow night, well, tonmight actually since this post will be after midnight. Rockaway beach is on lock down pretty much because they are in a flood zone so I actually have the hurricane days off! YAY Hurricane Irene! Its like the time in seventh grade when there was a huge ice storm in New Hampshire and we got two weeks off school because of it. Sure it was a bitch ass time for my parents to deal with, but awesome for me. And I am a renter on the third floor of a building that is not in a flood zone, so we should be fine.

Although I do pretty much plan on loosing power, so I am charging everything ahead of time, turned my fridge to maximum coldness, bought plenty of catfood, have some water stocked, filling the tub, candles, flash lights all that. My folks recommended that we tape down the windows, which we have not done yet but will do tomorrow before bed, particularly if it seems like the world is ending.

On the plus side the lack of electricity on Sunday will give me plenty of time to write and knit with no delicious technological distractions, so I am looking forward to a surprisingly productive weekend nevertheless. I really need a new knitting project to work on and would love to get more screenplay stuff written now that I have a production company hook up.

When it rains it pours. Busy busy busy…. But I find that I like being busy. There is a big difference with being busy and being overwhelmed, and its nice to be finding a better balance.

Oh, and because I am super into Rory McCann now I watched the Book Group which is on hulu right now (and seems to be somewhat censored, disappointingly) — it’s a good show and I was digging it but hating the main character (and her sister in the second season) and then I realized that she was Lura from Big Love. I guess she was also in House but I never watched that. Any way I like her now even though her character is crazy and has the weirdest craziest temper tamtrum style fit in the first episode (awkwardly witnessed by Rory’s character just btw) that was so uncomfortable to watch that I almost couldn’t handle it. Now I just imagine her in a prarie outfit with the hair and the facial scar and its no big deal…. Its been fun trying to find all of the stuff that Rory has been in, not all of it is easily available in the states so its kind of like a scavenger hunt.

Finished fairy

Well, as finished as she’s going to get. A good prototype, but flawed. Third times the charm I guess! Maybe I will do a wintery themed fairy next.

Full body:
fairy 1

fairy 3

Daffodil skirt:
fairy 4

Flower wrist warmer:
fairy 2

Still can’t decide if i will embroider a mouth on her or not…. probably not because i am so lazy.
